Abstract: Labeled optical burst switching (LOBS) is a new emerging optical swtching technology. It combinesthe advantages of forwarding based on label, such as high speed, QoS, and traffic engineering, and those of the control scheme for OBS, such as longer data unit, buffering at network edge, and outband signalling, so it has a PRomising application. The LOBS technology is ntroduced completely, including the network architecture. Then,some key technologies for LOBS are discussed. Finally, its prospect is evaluated considering the tendercy of next generation optical internet.
